Why on earth should I visit Cinque Terre?
Italy is one of the world’s most beautiful places to visit. Cinque Terre has stood out as one of the finest tourist destinations in Italy. The literal meaning of the name Cinque Terre is "Five Lands" and this is exactly what it is.

If you choose to visit Cinque Terre you will not have any regrets. The natural beauty of the environment in addition to the warmth and very receptive culture of the locals, delicious food, wine, the breathtaking views and inviting beaches, make the visit worthwhile.

Cinque Terre is rich in history and there is so much to learn. The sight of the beautiful landscapes and the complementary ancient Italian architectural designs would surely leave you marveled. Not over taken by urbanization, Cinque Terre gives you the opportunity to relax and experience the serenity of the amazing coast on the Italian Riviera.

So, like, what do I do in Cinque Terre?

There is so much to do in Cinque Terre. Actually, time and money are the limiting factors. Hiking is a great way to start exploring the beauty of the five villages. The routes used for hiking cut across all five villages.

Perhaps one of the best hiking points to start is Trail #2, or Sentiero Azzurro. Depending on your speed you can walk the route in five to six hours. The route is made up of four paths along the coast and you can begin your walk from Monterosso or Riomaggiore. Be mindful that it is a long walk on the rough terrains, but it is truly worth it.

If you love the ocean, you can enjoy the beaches in Monterosso and Corniglia. The biggest and most popular beach is in Monterosso, it is the only one with the shores covered in sand.

Something for the taste buds can make the trip more interesting. Wine tasting is another activity to take up when in Cinque Terre. Owing to the locals' creativity there is a variety of naturally brewed white wines you can appreciate.

After returning from hiking and sightseeing, the value of good wine cannot be underestimated. There are basically two types of wine in Cinque Terre, a dry white wine called Cinque Terre D.O.C., and Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà D.O.C., this is made from the best grapes and is not sold without having at least two years of aging.

Of course there are so many other things you can do. Like what? You ask. Well you can do the usual run of the mill visit to castles and churches in Vernazza or visit, Manarola and check out the harbour, the Church of San Lorenzo, the ancient San Rocco Hospital, do the Vineyard Walk or just enjoy the brethtaking views while walking towards the beach.

BTW Manarola may be the oldest of the towns in the Cinque Terre, so you really gotta check it out.
